Graham
has been working in the film and theatre industries since 1996
directing, writing and producing and has his own production company,
Powertrip Productions.
He recently completed “Anton”, a feature length drama
starring IFTA award winner Gerard McSorley and written by Anthony Fox.
He directed a TV pilot “The Coalboat Kids and the
Pickaroonie” written by Pat Larkin, an Irish language short
“Failte go hEirinn” for TG4 with Abu Media, a short film
with underprivileged children through Calipo Theatre Company called
“Who’s your Daddy?” and an RTE/Filmbase production
“Past Pupil”. He also wrote and directed the award winning
short “One Careful Owner” for the 15 second film festival.
He is in development on several other projects including “The
Hunted”, a feature length script Graham is writing which has been
optioned by Zanzibar Films, “Pass me by”, a road movie set
in France and Ireland and “Tempus X”, a real time digital
feature being developed at The Attic Studio.
He received the Kodak Tiernan McBride Award for Best Irish Short at the
Galway Film Fleadh, 2003 and the LIM Award for Best Irish Short at the
Foyle International Film Festival 2003 for his short film “A
Dublin Story”. The film was short listed for the 2004 Academy
Awards, received a special mention at the 2004 Tirana Film Festival and
has also been awarded a Bronze Remi at the prestigious Worldfest in
Houston, Texas.
“Anton” has screened at festivals worldwide in
official competition at the Boston Irish Film Festival, The Foyle
International Film Festival, The Galway Film Fleadh and others, and has
been shortlisted for 15 Irish Film and Television Academy Awards.
Over the years Graham has worked with many musicians, collaborating on
video projects and filming live events for the likes of Damien Rice,
The Waterboys, Camille O’Sullivan, The Republic of Loose and more.
Graham is co-founder of “The Attic Studio”, a community of
writers, directors, actors & producers who work in the film &
theatre industries in Ireland. The studio holds weekly workshops which
are regularly attended by established film and theatre professionals
and have built a reputation for nurturing talent and creating an
environment in which new work can be explored and developed.
As facilitator at the studio Graham has developed works with many
established and emerging writers and has directed rehearsed readings
for the likes of Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting), Terry McMahon (Sisk,
Dancehall Bitch) and booker prize winning author James Kelman (How late
it was, how late).
Graham has directed theatrical works for The Attic Studio including
“Those Powerful Machines” with Arnold Thomas Fanning for
the 2008 Dublin Fringe Festival, “Babylon Heights” with
Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh, “Boys’
Life” at Andrews Lane and “Spoon Fed” for The 2005
Dublin Fringe Festival. He directed a reading of “A Letter From
Death Row” by Johny Brown with Gary Lewis of Billy Elliot fame as
part of a campaign to raise awareness of the plight of Kenny Richey, an
innocent Scotsman on death row in the US.
Theatrical works in development include “They Make These Noises” with James Kelman.
Graham is also the chairman of Filmbase, a not-for-profit resource
centre for filmmakers. In the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar, it provides
a public space where filmmakers can network, hire filmmaking equipment,
take training courses and receive support and information about working
within the Irish film industry. Filmbase publishes the cultural
magazine Film Ireland and administers a number of film and documentary
production award schemes.
